Too technical. Not enough information. I'm lost on what do try next and still have not installed the vista service pack among others items. That is in part because you are not suppose to backup to the recovery drive which is D: in this case. This problem has happened to others before. I think it would help if the computer manufacturers would just hide the D: drive as then this can't happen.
You can just remove the automatic backup to D: and delete the existing backups to solve the errors you are getting at the moment. I'll post some instructions later on how to do that. Also besides a backup being good to have in case something like the Service Pack causes problems, it is good to have in case of hard drive failure. If you list what kind of data you have like Documents, Pictures, Music, Video, etc. I'm going to have to post the instructions tomarrow as it's am here and I need to go to sleep.
I thought I would have time to look at Windows backup and write up instructions tonight but I ran out of time in part because I was using a Virtual Machine and it's being slow at the moment. Under "Back up files" click "Change settings".
By "Automatic backup is currently turned on" click "Turn Off". Close the Backup Windows. Open Computer and double click on the D: drive. Delete the file MediaID. Notes: The computer name is probably YourNameComputer or similar. Before deleting the folder double click it and make sure a folder starting with "Backup Set" exists.
